The most common mode of transportation for books, publications and other printed matter designated for shipment between UC libraries and the bindery is a book cart. The loaded carts are subsequently collected by the UC Berkeley contracted carrier and either delivered to the bindery for binding or returned with the finished product to the requesting library.

To facilitate ease of transportation and to offer maximum protection for the printed materials, the shipper adheres to a set of standard operating procedures, and there are valuable tips for packing the book carts in a way that optimizes the volume and safety of their cargo.
